Job Description
Senior Software Engineer to develop software for Alphatec Spine's surgical navigation and robotics platform.
Location: Louisville, CO onsite. Salary: USD 130,000 - 150,000 per year. Experience: 5+ years. Education: BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, maintain, and validate software applications while producing supporting documentation.
- Engage in all phases of product development, including reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment, and test execution.
- Help achieve team objectives by fostering collaboration and reaching consensus on task assignments.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, systems, software, and test engineers across disciplines.
- Develop robust applications and frameworks for Unix and Linux environments.
- Create application software using C++ within the target platforms.
- Work with Marketing and cross functional R&D teams to evaluate, prioritize, and define future product features in detail.
- Perform integration and system level testing of software and software/hardware systems.
- Produce documentation for software projects, including design artifacts and test plans/cases.
- Estimate tasks and steer software projects according to the project plan.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Attend surgical cases, engage with surgeons, and stay informed about current company initiatives across technical areas.
- Collaborate with R&D and Marketing to support clinical prototyping, testing, and formal evaluation in cadaveric surgical lab settings.
- Provide technical support for field deployed software applications as needed.
- Partner with clinical and field teams to gather information, investigate issues, perform root-cause analysis, and lead product improvements.
- Participate in occasional on-site visits to diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
- Maintain rigorous version control, unit testing, and documentation to support regulatory evaluation and formal test efforts.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.
Requirements
- Proven experience in commercial software development for medical devices under IEC 62304; experience with surgical navigation is a plus.
- Strong C++ development experience on Linux; familiarity with the Qt framework is a plus.
- Knowledge of image processing and rendering toolkits such as VTK, ITK, OpenCV.
- Experience with 3D volumetric imaging (CT, CBCT, MRI) and medical image data formats (DICOM).
- Experience with Agile software development methodologies and tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, Jira.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Involvement in design decisions and tradeoffs for evolving codebases, including framework and language choices and architecture decisions.
- Familiarity with 3D geometry for spatial navigation systems is a plus.
