Senior Software Engineer

The Senior Software Engineer role is part of Cisco’s Cisco Distributed System Engineering (DSE) group, supporting the design, development, and validation of data-center capabilities on the Cisco 8000 Platform using the SONiC network operating system.

Role Summary

You will work on data plane and control plane software for data-center feature sets deployed on the Cisco 8000 Platform. The focus includes building software components for forwarding and services within the SONiC environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver data plane and control plane software for data-center features
• Develop forwarding and services data plane feature sets
• Write and maintain code using C++ and Python to support clean, maintainable implementations
• Participate in an agile team performing design, development, and testing of data-center feature sets for the Cisco 8000 Platform using SONiC
• Engage in development and validation activities as part of networking-focused engineering work

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years of related experience, or Master’s plus 4 years, or PhD plus 1 year
• 3+ years of programming experience in C/C++
• 2+ years using Python to build automated test suites for kernel module validation, including experience with Pytest
• 2+ years of experience with Linux

• Understanding of tools including Git, Jira, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipeline tools

Compensation and Location

This onsite role is located in Milpitas, CA. The salary range is USD 149,100 to 282,000 per year. Cisco also provides applicable full salary ranges by state:

• New York City Metro Area: $167,700.00 to $282,000.00
• Non-Metro New York state and Washington state: $149,100.00 to $250,900.00

The starting salary range posted for this position is $167,700.00 to $245,200.00, reflecting the projected salary range for new hires in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including incentive compensation, equity, or benefits. Individual pay is based on hiring location, market conditions, and job-related skillset, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, and/or training. U.S. employees are offered benefits subject to Cisco’s plan eligibility rules, and employees may be eligible for restricted stock units that vest based on continued employment. For non-sales roles, annual bonuses may apply subject to Cisco’s policies.
