Job Description
Senior Software Engineer at the US Office of Personnel Management, onsite in Washington, DC, with a salary range of USD 106,437 to 187,093 per year.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, test, deploy, and sustain enterprise grade software that aligns with mission critical requirements.
- Lead or contribute to the software development life cycle using modern practices such as Agile and DevSecOps.
- Create and maintain software that integrates AI and automation to enhance functionality.
- Assess and adopt tools, frameworks, and platforms to modernize environments and boost performance.
- Analyze requirements, constraints, and integration needs to produce secure, interoperable, and maintainable solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across development, integration, performance, security, or operations.
- Explain technical requirements, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or nationality is required.

- IT related experience demonstrating attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-12 in applying software development work, including: developing, testing, implementing, or maintaining application software using established programming languages, frameworks, or software engineering tools.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-12 in modernization, system design, or software development by analyzing requirements, documenting design considerations, or drafting technical recommendations.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-12 in assisting with the integration of application software with platforms, services, databases, data sources, or other systems.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-12 in identifying application development, integration, performance, security, or operational issues and proposing corrective actions for review.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-12 in preparing technical requirements, documentation, recommendations, or implementation options for review by senior technical staff, stakeholders, customers, or technical teams.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 in developing, testing, implementing, or maintaining application software using programming languages, frameworks, or software engineering tools.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 in supporting application modernization, system design, or software development by recommending technical approaches or design solutions.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 in integrating application software with platforms, services, databases, data sources, or other systems.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 in troubleshooting and resolving application development, integration, performance, security, or operational issues.
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 in communicating technical requirements, risks, recommendations, or implementation options to stakeholders, customers, or technical teams.
- Minimum experience: 1 year.
