Job Description
Saab offers an onsite Senior Software Engineer role in Quincy, MA, focused on software for autonomous maritime vehicles. You will contribute to architecture, development, integration, and maintenance across the full software lifecycle, collaborating with engineers across Linux, Windows, and embedded platforms.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to design, implement, unit test, document, and maintain software across Linux, Windows, and embedded platforms
- Apply software engineering fundamentals and best practices to create innovative solutions and solve challenging problems
- Support software modeling, simulation, integration, and test activities as needed
- Develop and present technical concepts, tradeoffs, analyses, designs, and performance estimates
- Participate in the full software product lifecycle: development, prototyping, integration, verification, delivery, and support
- Engage in technical reviews and status meetings
- Collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Follow Saab standard operating procedures and Quality System requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 8+ years of relevant experience in advanced software product development, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years of similar experience
- Programming languages: C, C++, Python
- Scripting languages including Linux/Unix shells, Matlab
- Integrated Development Environments: Eclipse, GNU tools, VS Code, Microsoft Visual Studio, Arduino
- Version control: SVN, Git
- Issue tracking via Jira or similar
- MS Office suite: Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experience with agile development methodologies including Scrum
- Experience with virtual machines
- Strong understanding of software design methods, including configuration control, design tradeoffs, analyses, and requirement specification
- Software product development background demonstrating strong engineering aptitude and problem solving
- Proven ability to resolve issues during design, development, and execution of software activities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and an effective contributor in a team environment
- Ability to work independently to meet technical and program requirements
- Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance
- Ability to travel up to 25%, both international and domestic, depending on project needs

Compensation Range
- Quincy, MA: $138,900 - $180,600
- Cranston, RI: $127,300 - $165,500
Desired Skills and Experience
- Prior experience with U.S. defense programs is highly desirable
- Experience developing products or solutions for Naval and Marine applications, including robotic systems, is a plus
- Experience with bare-metal embedded software development
