The position carries a salary range of USD 106,000 to 197,000 per year and expects a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) along with at least five years of software engineering experience. Preference is given to candidates based in Portsmouth or Indianapolis where possible.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support full stack software within an Agile product team
- Create modern web applications and backend services to enhance claims experiences and operational workflows
- Develop scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven integrations using Java and Spring Boot, following cloud-native patterns
- Build and maintain responsive frontend applications with JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue
- Architect AWS based solutions using Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS or DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Step Functions, CloudWatch, IAM, and ECS/EKS or other container runtimes
- Create and maintain secure APIs and enterprise-grade integrations
- Implement secure authentication and authorization patterns leveraging enterprise identity solutions
- Design, optimize, and troubleshoot data models and data flows across relational and cloud-native stores
- Lead production issue troubleshooting and root cause analysis to improve reliability, resilience, and performance
- Enhance CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and related automation, testing, and quality tooling
- Improve observability with Datadog and Splunk, including dashboards, alerts, metrics, logs, and tracing
- Contribute to discovery, estimation, technical design, story creation, and documentation
- Contribute to engineering best practices across code quality, testing, automation, and operational readiness
- Mentor engineers and elevate team standards and execution
- Own medium-to-large features and services end-to-end to modernize and evolve the claims technology ecosystem
What you'll bring
- Owns medium-to-large features end-to-end, including design, implementation, testing strategy, and production readiness
- Leads troubleshooting and performance tuning for applications and databases
- Drives API and integration work, including patterns similar to Apigee and identity/security considerations
- Improves engineering practices such as CI/CD, test automation, and code quality, while mentoring others
- Ensures observability, deployment resiliency, and developer productivity standards across teams
- Partners with product, architecture, and security stakeholders and communicates trade-offs clearly
- Mentors team members and promotes high-performing engineering standards
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: clean code, testing, debugging, and design
- Experience integrating systems via APIs and aligning with enterprise security, logging, and monitoring standards
- Ability to work in Agile teams using modern delivery practices
- Effective communication and collaboration; capable of documenting and explaining technical decisions
- Experience or openness to AI-assisted software development tools (for example GitHub Actions Copilot)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
- Five or more years of software engineering experience
- Proven ability to design, develop, and support production applications
- Experience working across frontend, backend, API, cloud, and operational domains
- Background in enterprise environments with security, monitoring, and reliability standards
- Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting application and database performance issues
- Open to using AI-assisted software development tools
