Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
Leonardo DRS Land Systems in Goleta, California is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, implement, and support embedded software across multiple U.S. defense programs. This hybrid role offers in-person or flexible work arrangements and a salary range of USD 107,089 - 144,570 per year.
Responsibilities
- Independently drive technical projects and mentor other engineers
- Assess customer specifications and translate them into designs that best support them
- Design and implement embedded software
- Plan, document, and support testing of products, systems or subsystems
- Contribute to budgets, cost estimates, and schedules for design tasks
- Document specifications for components and subsystems
- Specify and evaluate supplier subsystems and services
- Apply software engineering fundamentals to create solutions that meet project needs
- Apply CS concepts in development, testing, and documentation of software units
- Join the testing team to plan and review test cases within software solution components
- Engage in code reviews with systems engineers, software architects, and teammates
- Collaborate with internal and external customers to develop systems to meet required business specifications
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, in writing and verbally
- Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the organization's mission, values and culture
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
- Proven computer science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
- 5+ years of industry experience delivering high-quality, innovative applications and programming experience in one or more of: C, C++, C# and/or Java
- Practical experience working with embedded hardware
- Experience in object oriented design and development
- Experience following formal software development processes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work well in a team environment as well as independently with little day-to-day guidance
- Demonstrates an ambition to learn
- Experience with Linux/Unix and/or Windows
- Experience with software version control systems (preferably Git)
- Willing to travel up to 20% as necessary
