Job Description
Axon is building a cloud-native Corporate Data Platform that supports enterprise reporting, self-service analytics, and Connected Intelligence initiatives. As a hands-on senior individual contributor, this role serves as a technical anchor for designing, implementing, and improving modern data solutions across Snowflake and related platform technologies. The position is based in New York, with a hybrid working schedule and an emphasis on production readiness, governance, and measurable engineering impact.
Role focus
- Act as a senior technical anchor for Axon's Corporate Data Platform, setting a high quality bar for engineering output, data modeling, testing, observability, and production readiness.
- Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines, models, and warehouse architecture across Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, and related modern data platform technologies.
- Partner with the Principal Data Engineer, team lead, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape architectural decisions and deliver reliable, governed, AI-ready data infrastructure.
- Build and maintain clean, well-modeled datasets that support enterprise reporting, business self-service analytics, and AI-driven work-streams across Finance, Sales, Operations, and other business functions.
Governance, quality, and audit readiness
- Contribute to Axon’s formal data governance framework, including data quality SLAs, audit-scoped monitoring across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers, and SOX-relevant compliance controls.
- Implement and uphold automated testing, monitoring, and data quality standards using tools such as dbt and Elementary, supporting internal and external audit integrity requirements.
Engineering standards and leadership
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through thorough code reviews, pairing on complex problems, technical guidance, and proactive knowledge sharing.
- Establish and evolve engineering best practices, including dbt conventions, data modeling patterns, testing standards, CI/CD workflows, and documentation practices.
- Evaluate and introduce new tools, patterns, and platform capabilities to keep pace with growing enterprise data and AI needs.
- Drive measurable impact via improvements to platform reliability, pipeline SLA adherence, data quality test pass rates, engineering quality, governance maturity, and team capability.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software engineering, or modern data platform development, with a record of delivering production-ready data pipelines, models, and warehouse solutions.
- Hands-on expertise with Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, and modern ELT and data warehouse architecture. Experience with Elementary, Sigma, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or AI/ML-adjacent data tooling is a strong plus.
- Proficiency using AI-powered engineering tools such as Cursor and Claude Code as part of day-to-day development workflows, including expectations to improve engineering quality, speed, documentation, testing, and problem-solving.
- Strong data modeling, SQL, testing, observability, and performance optimization skills, with a commitment to building reliable, governed, and maintainable systems.
- Experience supporting data governance, data quality frameworks, auditability, compliance controls, or SOX-relevant environments.
- Proven ability to operate as a senior individual contributor by owning complex technical problems, influencing architecture, raising code quality, and delivering high-impact work without close direction.
- Passion for mentorship and team elevation through code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and helping establish practical engineering standards.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, partnering effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders across Finance, Sales, Operations, and other functions.
- Values aligned with Axon’s mission and culture, including ownership, integrity, problem-solving, and building systems that help the business move faster and smarter.
