Senior Data Engineer

Headway.co is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to help shape data architecture and deliver data pipelines built for scale, reliability, and security. This hybrid role supports Headway’s mental healthcare platform by advancing governance standards and enabling AI-ready, trustworthy data across the organization.

Working cross-functionally, you will influence technical direction for the data platform while partnering with Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, and Infrastructure. The goal is to ensure data systems are dependable enough to power accurate answers from AI-powered tools, and to build the foundations for long-term growth.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data infrastructure that support internal stakeholders and core business functions
• Define, develop, and refine data governance, monitoring, and quality standards, including ensuring AI tool generated or surfaced data is complete, correct, and traceable
• Partner with Product and Engineering to advocate for data engineering best practices and support data needs early in the product lifecycle
• Collaborate with Analytics, Data Science, and Infrastructure to continuously evolve Headway’s data architecture
• Own and drive technical decisions across the data platform, covering areas such as performance optimization and infrastructure-as-code
• Help shape how employees interact with data through AI-powered tools by ensuring the underlying data layer supports trustworthy outputs

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience as a data engineer, with a track record of building scalable systems and solving complex data problems in fast-paced environments
• Proficiency in Python and SQL
• Experience across a modern data platform stack, including Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, and Terraform
• Familiarity with visualization tools such as Metabase or Jupyter Notebooks (plus)
• A pragmatic approach to building for today’s needs and tomorrow’s scale
• A strong sense of ownership and action, including when expectations are unclear
• Empathy for teammates and stakeholders, with a collaborative mindset across disciplines

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $180,000 - $225,000 per year
