Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
The Senior Data Engineer role supports a utility client by leading the design, development, and optimization of enterprise data systems used for analytics and reporting across cloud and on-premises environments, with SAP data integration experience.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement robust data pipelines, models, and ingestion frameworks to enable advanced analytics and machine learning initiatives.
- Design and maintain scalable data infrastructure across cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Integrate SAP data sources into enterprise data platforms to support reporting and analytics capabilities.
- Ensure data integrity, reliability, and performance across systems and applications.
- Lead efforts to reduce data redundancy and promote a single source of truth through effective data modeling and integration.
- Act as a technical lead on cross functional data projects, guiding design decisions and aligning with business objectives.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Oversee database upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning activities.
- Develop and enforce standards for data governance, security, and lifecycle management.
- Mentor junior data engineers and analysts, sharing best practices and supporting technical growth.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and propose adoption strategies to enhance data capabilities.
- Create and deliver training materials and documentation to support team development and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- 6-8+ years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or related roles.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python or R.
- Expertise in relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB).
- Strong experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
- Experience integrating and analyzing data from SAP systems (e.g., SAP HANA, SAP BW, SAP ECC).
- Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor team members.
