Job Description

You will join the MQS Center of Quantum Computing in San Francisco as a Research Software Engineer focused on calibration software for quantum devices. This onsite role combines building Python APIs, data-analysis pipelines, dashboards, and scalable cloud infrastructure to accelerate experimental workflows. The compensation range is USD 192,200 to 260,000 per year, with sign-on payments and restricted stock units as part of the package. You’ll work alongside scientists and software engineers to advance quantum technologies while contributing to a culture that values mentorship, collaboration, and rigorous software practices.

Responsibilities

  • Architect extensible and intuitive frameworks for running quantum computing experiments and analyzing data
  • Apply the latest calibration techniques to enable scaling to larger devices
  • Optimize performance of experiment and analysis tools to increase throughput
  • Develop dashboards enabling experimentalists to inspect and control quantum device calibration
  • Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure that supports increasingly complex science workflows
  • Mentor colleagues and document practices to empower scientists to contribute to the codebase

Requirements

  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • PhD or 6+ years of applied research experience
  • Experience working with scientists in a research environment
  • 1+ years of experience with calibration for experimental quantum computing

About the team

You will be joining the Software group within the MQS Center of Quantum Computing. Our team is comprised of scientists and software engineers who are building scalable software that enables quantum computing technologies.
