- Profile and re-organize complex or disjointed data sources to improve usability for analytics.
- Integrate and ingest information from diverse sources including clinical data, supplier inputs, financial transactions, HR and other service applications, third-party information, and unstructured inputs from tools such as Excel spreadsheets and online forms.
- Evaluate the integrity of data movement, transformation code, and large datasets.
- Innovate and lead the design and development of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
Data products, governance, and enablement
- Maintain documentation for data processes, tools, and pipelines written for data users.
- Contribute to and grow a unified data catalog and data model.
- Engage organizational partners to define new data requirements and evolving terminologies.
- Manage and maintain mappings for common or related terms in a centralized location, including ongoing updates to support coordination.
- Proactively inform the data community about new capabilities delivered by the data architecture team.
- Design, build, and maintain a centralized repository of reliable, high-quality data to streamline data scientist workflows and support faster dataset validation.
- Work with data governance bodies to advocate for safer, more secure, and more effective data procedures.
Collaboration and growth
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and help foster collaboration and continuous learning.
- Produce training materials for data specialists across the organization.
Cloud and optimization
- Contribute to cloud migration initiatives, data infrastructure modernization, and system optimization.
- Monitor analytics department capacity resources such as Microsoft cloud computing capacity.
- Develop and implement plans to reduce analytics department capacity usage without reducing data functions by optimizing processing techniques.
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM-related field (or equivalent).
- Four years’ experience in data engineering, including strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and other data tools.
- Experience architecting scalable data systems and working with large, complex datasets.
- Experience designing and operationalizing complex solutions.
- Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and data pipeline optimization.
- Firsthand experience with cloud platforms, data warehousing, and ETL design.
- Experience with healthcare data management and familiarity with healthcare industry standards is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across teams.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to decompose complex issues into practical solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Skilled in rigorous and automated data validation techniques.
- Knowledge of data documentation methods that prioritize documentation value.
- Epic Clarity Cogito certification is preferred.
