Gilbane Building Company is hiring a Data Engineer II in Providence, RI (onsite) to design and deliver production-ready data solutions.

Independently own defined data engineering solutions from requirements and design through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support
Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and integrations, including data models, APIs, and batch or near-real-time workflows
Convert business rules and source-system behavior into maintainable technical designs and data mappings
Implement automated testing, reconciliation, observability, alerting, metadata management, and data lineage for assigned solutions
Tune pipelines, storage, and queries to improve reliability, scalability, performance, and cost effectiveness
Troubleshoot production incidents, conduct root-cause analysis, remediate defects, and help prevent recurrence
Apply CI/CD, version control, code review, documentation, and security, privacy, and governance standards
Collaborate with analytics, BI, data science, architecture, product, and business teams to deliver usable data products
Find opportunities to automate manual processes and create reusable engineering patterns
Mentor junior engineers through technical guidance, code review, and knowledge sharing

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
3-5 years of relevant experience in data engineering, software engineering, business intelligence, analytics engineering, or data platform development
Experience building and supporting production ETL/ELT pipelines and working with data models, warehouses, lakes, or lakehouses
Strong SQL and proficiency in Python, Scala, Java, or a similar language
Experience with a cloud data platform, an orchestration tool, and automated testing or CI/CD preferred
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay range: USD 140,000 - 170,000 per year plus benefits and retirement program
Final salary determined based on factors including geographic location, skills, education, experience, internal equity, and team alignment
