Job Description

Academy Sports is looking for a Product Developer to help shape and improve the company’s private brand assortments. Based in Katy, TX, this onsite role supports product development from early details through refinement, working closely with internal teams and external partners to keep milestones on track.

You will manage product information, organize specifications, and track samples while collaborating on timelines and artwork approvals. The goal is to refresh assortments, evaluate trends, and help resolve development issues that impact quality, value, and customer satisfaction.

What you’ll do

  • Support the development and refinement of Private Brand assortments by managing product details and maintaining strong vendor relationships.
  • Organize specifications and track samples to maintain accuracy throughout development.
  • Partner across teams to help ensure products meet expectations.
  • Contribute directly to improving quality, value, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate on timelines, support artwork approvals, and help resolve issues that come up during development.
  • Refresh assortments, analyze trends, and identify opportunities to elevate product performance.
  • Support creation of competitive, consumer-ready products across multiple categories.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (required).
  • 3+ years of related work experience (required).
  • 2+ years of product development experience (preferred).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt positively to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of Flex PLM and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • A team-first attitude, with willingness to step in wherever needed while owning core duties.

Collaboration

  • Partners closely with Buying, Production, Quality Assurance, Vendor Compliance, and Import Logistics to support development milestones.
  • Works with suppliers, manufacturers, and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with brand goals.

Skills and tools

  • Key skills: Analysis, Communication, Planning, Presentation, Product Design, Organizational Skills.
  • Technologies: Flex PLM, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office.

Work style and physical requirements

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Up to 5% domestic and international travel, including overnight stays.
  • Regular in-office attendance required.
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
  • Ability to adhere to company policies and professional standards.
