Principal Software Engineer, Network Management System (NMS) Application Development

Gigamon is seeking a hands-on Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture and development of the GigaVUE-FM network management capabilities across physical, cloud, and hybrid environments. The role emphasizes building scalable backend services and cloud-native platform components powered by AI-driven automation. This position is based in Santa Clara, California, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design and implementation of core GigaVUE-FM features for network management, visibility, and traffic analysis across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
• Architect and build scalable, secure, and resilient enterprise-grade software systems and backend services.
• Steer the architecture of extensible, high-performance platforms that support large-scale deployments and long-term product evolution within the NMS/FM domain.
• Develop distributed systems and cloud-native services that improve scalability, operability, and maintainability.
• Provide deep technical expertise in networking and security, including common networking protocols and monitoring platforms.
• Collaborate with product management, engineering teams, and stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned with customer needs and business objectives.
• Engage in customer and third-party discussions, translating requirements, feedback, and escalations into durable product improvements.
• Lead design reviews, advance engineering standards for the domain, and guide critical technical decisions across the team.
• Mentor engineers across the team and related groups, strengthening technical depth and engineering practices.
• Apply AI tooling and automation pragmatically to enhance engineering workflows, developer productivity, and product capabilities.

Requirements

• More than 10 years of experience building complex enterprise applications, platform software, or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Java; knowledge of Python or Go is a plus.
• Proven track record delivering scalable, resilient, and secure production software systems.
• Extensive experience with API architecture, backend service design, and platform engineering.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, design reviews, mentoring, and cross-team collaboration.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and common networking protocols.
• Experience in network monitoring, observability, cybersecurity, or related infrastructure domains.
• Experience with cloud-native platforms and public clouds such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
