Modernization Software Engineer
Job Description
The Modernization Software Engineer role, based in Manassas, VA, onsite, focuses on updating legacy Navy combat system software by converting aging code into robust, scalable solutions. You will contribute within a small embedded software team to analyze legacy complexity, deploy modern development tools, and integrate modernized solutions while maintaining daily client engagement.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to transforming legacy code into robust, scalable solutions that help maintain the effectiveness of Navy combat systems.
- Collaborate within a small embedded software team to perform hands-on analysis of legacy complexity, deploy advanced development tools, and integrate modernized solutions.
- Engage with the client daily to implement targeted enhancements and ensure alignment with mission needs.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience in Rust and C or C++, including complexity analysis, integration testing, and debugging in a professional setting.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes, and with CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with Linux and Windows environments, plus networking fundamentals and tools such as Git, SSH, PuTTY, or command-line interfaces.
- Solid understanding of foundational software engineering principles including modularity, memory management, design patterns, code review, and documentation.
- Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree.

Work Model
This position is onsite in Manassas, VA. Work will primarily be conducted at a Booz Allen office or a customer facility, with collaboration maintained with team members and clients as required by the role. Occasional in-person involvement at customer facilities may be necessary.
Clearance
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Compensation
The projected salary range for this role is USD 86,800 to 198,000 per year. Compensation is determined by factors including location, education, experience, and organizational requirements. The posting will close within 90 days from the posting date.
