Machine Learning Engineer, Co-op
Job Description
Part-time Machine Learning Engineer Co-op on Ancestry's MLE team. The role focuses on developing, deploying, fine-tuning, and optimizing ML and LLM models, integrating GenAI powered applications, and building AI agents to enhance customer experiences and streamline internal workflows.
Responsibilities
- Create and deploy machine learning models and large language models.
- Design and optimize AI agents to improve automation and decision making.
- Improve inference speed, storage efficiency, and scalability for real world use cases.
- Build end-to-end pipelines and MLOps workflows to streamline training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Contribute to the ML, LLMs, and agent evaluation and monitoring platform.
- Experiment with emerging ML, LLM, and agent technologies.
Requirements
- Pursuing an advanced degree (Master's or PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Linguistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field with a strong data focus.
- Strong Python proficiency and familiarity with ML libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
- Experience with GenAI, LLMs, and agent frameworks such as LangChain and AutoGen.
- Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to write clean, efficient, and scalable code.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Curiosity and a proactive, self-driven attitude.
- Experience with cloud platforms, ML development tools, and ML deployment tooling.
- Nice to have: familiarity with NodeJS or Java.
- Nice to have: familiarity with LLM fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases (FAISS, Pinecone, OpenSearch), LLM optimization, VLLM library, HuggingFace library, or reinforcement learning techniques.
