Job Description

Probity Inc. is hiring a JR Software Engineer 2 to support a critical government program in Chantilly, VA by building secure, scalable software for Intelligence Community customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of scalable full-stack applications from requirements through deployment and sustainment
  • Architect and implement backend services using Python and modern application frameworks
  • Develop and integrate RESTful APIs for system interoperability, data exchange, and distributed functionality
  • Design and optimize relational databases focused on performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Build and improve responsive user interfaces using JavaScript, Angular, and modern front-end practices
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and mission stakeholders to evaluate requirements, shape technical approaches, and deliver solutions
  • Diagnose complex defects, integration issues, and performance problems; implement fixes that improve reliability
  • Contribute through design reviews, peer code reviews, and engineering discussions while promoting strong development practices
  • Support technical planning, estimation, testing, deployment, and long-term application sustainment
  • Participate in Agile delivery activities and drive continuous improvement in development processes and engineering practices
  • Ensure delivered application solutions meet security, performance, scalability, and maintainability objectives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Approximately 10+ years of professional experience designing and delivering enterprise software solutions
  • Advanced proficiency in Python for backend and application development
  • Strong command of JavaScript and modern front-end development practices
  • Expertise with Angular or comparable modern front-end frameworks
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and integrate RESTful APIs within distributed applications
  • Hands-on knowledge of Oracle databases, including SQL development, application integration, and data access
  • Experience with relational database technologies such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MySQL
  • Ability to develop and maintain applications in Linux/Unix environments
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices including version control, automated testing, peer reviews, and secure development principles
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience across the full software development lifecycle
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for technical problem-solving

Security Clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on development of APIs using FastAPI
  • Working knowledge of SQLAlchemy or comparable ORM technologies for application-to-database integration
  • Experience designing and deploying cloud-based applications, particularly in AWS environments
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated software delivery
  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, and other distributed application technologies
  • Proficiency with development and infrastructure tools such as Git, Jenkins, Terraform, or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or comparable search and analytics technologies
  • Ability to provide technical direction, mentor engineers, or contribute to development standards
  • Previous support of Intelligence Community or Department of Defense software development programs
