Job Description
The IT Lead Data Engineer provides technical leadership for extracting, transforming, and storing the Firm’s data assets. This role designs data solutions, oversees data extraction and ingestion platforms, and helps establish governance practices while mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders and data architects to define and design data solutions aligned to Firm data initiatives.
- Assess where data assets reside across Firm systems, then design solutions that integrate disparate sources to address business problems and deliver business value.
- Coordinate with project managers to provide effort estimates and deliver technical leadership across solution design and requirements.
- Work with data governance teams to ensure governance principles are applied throughout day-to-day data usage and solution design.
- Create mock-up solution designs, visualizations, and reports to demonstrate proposed solutions and deliverables.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to educate teams on Firm data platforms and best practices related to data usage and data hygiene.
- Meet regularly with business line customers to understand business processes and evolving data needs, helping identify potential data-related projects.
- Collaborate with data scientists and developers to apply advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to uncover patterns and trends that increase the value of Firm data.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with project team members, vendors, and other departments involved in projects, systems, and IT strategies.
- Act as a technical lead by reviewing proposed solution designs, conducting code reviews, and troubleshooting advanced technical issues.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement efforts to keep Firm data accurate and timely.
- Partner with Information Security and Compliance teams to support a data strategy and technologies that meet internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with BDO Global and other BDO member firms to ensure standards are followed, supporting reusable models and rapid deployment of shared technology.
- Follow Project Management fundamentals and Project Management Office policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Eight (8) or more years working as a data engineer, data analyst, or similar analyst/engineer role, required.
- Eight (8) or more years working with PowerBI, Tableau, or similar data visualization products, required.
- Five (5) or more years working within commercial cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP, required.
- Three (3) or more years using version control tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub), required.
- Demonstrable proficiency in developing and understanding custom and ad-hoc SQL queries, required.
- Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, required.
- Strong proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), or similar, required.
- Strong proficiency in PowerBI, Tableau, Looker, Qlik, or similar, required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a large, complex enterprise environment with significant regulatory and compliance requirements, preferred.
- Experience using a modern scripting language such as Python, Scala, R, or Java, preferred.
- Professional service firm experience, preferred.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Mathematics, or Statistics, preferred.

Location and Compensation
Location: United States (onsite)
Estimated Salary: USD 138,000 to 170,000 per year
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Education: High School Diploma or GED
