Job Description

Aeolidia has a part time, contract opportunity for a Front End Web Developer based in Seattle, WA with remote work options. The role focuses on building and testing Shopify themes based on approved designs, partnering with strategy and design stakeholders, and coordinating integrations throughout client projects. There is also potential for the position to grow into a full time salaried role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multiple designers and clients to recreate approved designs on Shopify, ensuring the result matches planned features and functionality.
  • Work closely with an Ecommerce Strategist to support client success through your development output.
  • Provide input during planning stages on strategy, features, and functionality.
  • Share knowledge and conduct research as design work progresses.
  • Code the site’s design theme in Shopify.
  • Ensure builds are flexible and growth-ready, enabling clients to add, edit, and replace content through product listings, pages, blog posts, theme sections, and section blocks.
  • For custom websites, start from a starter theme, extend functionality as needed, and create tutorials to help clients use the implemented functionality.
  • For other projects, start from a preferred theme and adjust design details based on project scope.
  • Advise clients on related considerations including domain name, URL redirects, product reviews, and SEO concerns.
  • Communicate with clients using written updates in project management software, screen share calls, video, and chat.
  • Integrate apps and coordinate integrations with app developers.
  • Own site testing responsibilities and respond to issues raised during testing by the Quality Assurance team and clients.

Requirements

  • Front-end developer with at least three (3) years of Shopify ecommerce experience.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience creating development processes and best practices for a team, including documentation, communication, and training when needed.
  • Strong ability to code a Shopify website from a Figma file.
  • Experience with best responsive practices, including JavaScript/jQuery and SVG graphics.
  • Understanding of what supports a user-friendly, high-converting ecommerce experience.
  • Experience using Git to push commits to a remote repository such as Bitbucket or GitHub.
  • Comprehensive understanding of theme sections and section blocks.
  • Knowledge of the difference between a section and a snippet, including when to use each.
  • Ability to write well organized, readable, indented, and commented code that other developers can understand.
  • Comfort using JavaScript/jQuery libraries and writing custom functions.
  • Familiarity with structured data and JSON-LD.
  • Skilled one-on-one client communication.
  • Clear and consistent communication with non-technical stakeholders over email, video, and phone.
  • Ability to provide clear tutorials and walk-through training.
  • Extreme punctuality.
  • Motivation to keep learning best practices and new technologies.
  • A proactive working style that focuses on process improvement and streamlining company practices.
  • Focus on diligence and attention to both important items and smaller details.
  • Ability to prioritize proactive work over reactive work and to protect focus time from notifications.
