Data Engineer DoD
Job Description
As a Data Engineer, you will support the Defense Logistics Agency’s ARTET program by designing, building, and maintaining secure data pipelines and integrating enterprise datasets to enable analytics in a DoD environment.
Role Overview
Duties focus on creating scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data, integrating multiple enterprise sources, and ensuring data integrity through validation, cleansing, and monitoring. You will also contribute to dataset preparation for AI/ML efforts and maintain documentation aligned with data architecture and security compliance practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured datasets.
- Integrate data from enterprise systems, including ERP platforms, operational databases, and legacy systems.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries and data models to support analytics and reporting requirements.
- Implement data validation, cleansing, and monitoring processes to ensure data integrity.
- Support cloud or hybrid data environments, including AWS, Azure, or on-prem infrastructure.
- Collaborate with analysts and developers to define data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Prepare and structure datasets to support AI/ML initiatives for downstream model development.
- Document data architecture, workflows, and security compliance practices.
- Troubleshoot performance and data issues and implement corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience building and supporting data pipelines in enterprise environments.
- Strong SQL proficiency and experience working with relational databases.
- Experience developing ETL/ELT processes with structured and unstructured data.
- Experience with Python or a similar scripting language.
- Experience working in secure Federal or DoD environments.

Clearance and Eligibility
- Must be eligible to work in a DoD secure environment.
- Secret Clearance
- IAT Level II certification (DoD 8570/8140 compliant).
- U.S. citizenship required as defined under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
Location
Onsite Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Compensation
USD 125,000 - 150,000 per year.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field.
