Job Description

Leidos is looking for an AI Native Software Developer to support the Airports, Borders, and Security (AB&S) Business Area. In this role, you will help build and modernize a hybrid-cloud, AI-driven Travel & Customs Orchestration Platform that enables border and aviation security operations with microservices and real-time capabilities.

The work centers on designing services around the platform’s Sense Predict Orchestrate Measure model, integrating streaming and operational data sources, and delivering improvements that support reliability, throughput, and reduced wait times.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build microservices that support the platform’s Sense Predict Orchestrate Measure model.
  • Integrate real-time data feeds, including ATC, manifests, border processing, detection/security, kiosks, and e-Gates, and contribute to the AI Detection Algorithm Marketplace.
  • Deliver capabilities such as dynamic staffing allocation, lane management, passenger routing, and predictive maintenance.
  • Collaborate in an Agile/SAFe environment alongside systems engineering, DevSecOps, and QA.
  • Write clean, tested code and use AI-assisted tools to accelerate development and improve quality.
  • Support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and continuous improvement focused on reducing wait times and increasing throughput.
  • Implement modern automated testing approaches, including unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree and 4 years of related experience, or a Master’s with 2 years of related experience; 4 years related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • 1 year of software development experience supporting a related industry border/aviation customer (including TSA, CBP/ICE, eu-LISA, Frontex, airport operators, or airlines).
  • Hands-on experience with microservices and at least one modern language: Java, Python, or C++.
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools and/or working with AI/ML-enabled systems.
  • Experience enhancing and maintaining existing software while preserving operational stability.
  • Ability to navigate large, complex distributed systems and translate them into higher-level architecture.
  • Agile experience, including understanding of APIs and distributed systems.

Location: Reston, VA (hybrid)
Pay Range: USD 69,550 - 125,725 per year
