In Plano, Texas, JPMorgan Chase's Commercial and Investment Banking Electronic Trading Technology group builds latency-sensitive, real-time services that power sophisticated electronic trading. The Lead Software Engineer - DevOps will own production reliability and guide AI-assisted engineering practices across the software lifecycle to improve quality and delivery speed. The role offers a compensation range of USD 152,000 to 215,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate releases across UAT and production environments with readiness checks, clear change documentation, stakeholder communication, and reliable rollback plans.
- Own production reliability and latency for algorithmic and execution services, including post-trading hours releases and market-hours support posture.
- Drive the team's adoption of enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing validation standards and promoting reuse of effective patterns.
- Apply knowledge of the SDLC toolchain and AI-assisted development and automation capabilities to maximize automation value.
- Design and troubleshoot inventive software solutions, tackling problems beyond routine approaches to break down technical problems.
- Manage UAT environment provisioning and configuration for on-prem hosts, supporting uptime, deployments, environment triage, and release readiness in coordination with partner teams.
- Build and enhance CI/CD and release engineering for Java services with automated builds, artifact/versioning discipline, environment promotion, gated releases, and fast rollback.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and networking teams on Linux and network performance considerations affecting latency, jitter, and stability.
- Drive incident management excellence through rapid triage, root-cause analysis, and permanent remediation to reduce recurrence and MTTR.
- Engineer for resiliency with high availability and disaster recovery design, failover testing, dependency isolation, and capacity planning.
- Identify opportunities to automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability and lead communities of practice to spread awareness of new technologies.

Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering and five or more years of applied experience.
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
- Advanced development experience in Python, Java, or equivalent languages.
- Proven track record leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations, with coaching experience for safe adoption.
- Proficient across the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Familiar with AI-assisted development tools within the lifecycle and able to critically evaluate AI outputs.
- Advanced understanding of agile practices, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security.
- Proven expertise in software applications and technical processes within a discipline such as cloud, AI/ML, or mobility.
- Demonstrated proficiency in observability (metrics, logs, traces), alert design, and SLO-driven reliability practices.
- Deep knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems.
- Strong troubleshooting across application, operating system, and network layers, with comfort in incident response and postmortems.
