SAS is hiring a Senior Unreal Engine Developer to support the Games Analytics team, building photorealistic digital twin environments in Unreal Engine 5. In this remote role, you will help connect real-time simulation and visualization to production data, contributing to an architecture, pipeline, and standards roadmap for a young team.
This position focuses on immersive, data-driven experiences for industrial systems, robotic fleets, and logistics operations, with attention to visual fidelity, performance, and interactivity expected from an enterprise analytics platform.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design and development of photorealistic digital twin environments in Unreal Engine 5, integrating real-time simulation and visualization for industrial systems, robotic fleets, and logistics operations.
- Collaborate with optimization experts, IoT engineers, and software architects to deliver immersive experiences tied to real-time telemetry, sensor inputs, and machine learning outputs from SAS analytics pipelines.
- Build and optimize custom Blueprints and C++ modules for advanced simulation logic, physical system behavior, and user interaction.
- Implement dynamic asset loading, level streaming, and runtime procedural generation so digital twin scenarios can scale.
- Evaluate, integrate, and extend Unreal Engine plugins, including the group’s SAS Connector and third-party plugins required by digital twin products.
- Apply best practices in Unreal Engine pipeline management and version control using Perforce and Plastic SCM, coordinating cross-functionally with cloud services, REST APIs, and digital twin orchestration layers.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to the long-term technical strategy for digital twin innovation across the enterprise.
- Follow applicable security policies and processes to support the organization’s secure software development goals.
- Represent SAS in open-source projects, encouraged where appropriate.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience developing interactive 3D applications with Unreal Engine, including expert proficiency in Blueprints and C++.
- Production experience with Unreal Engine server/client architecture and network replication.
- Experience integrating external data sources or APIs into real-time applications, including JSON, REST, WebSocket, or MQTT, ideally for simulation or enterprise scenarios.
- A portfolio showing shipped real-time 3D or simulation projects, including photorealistic rendering, physics simulation, and/or complex user interaction.
- Equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the listed qualifications.
Additional competencies
- Deep, current expertise in real-time 3D, with the ability to solve difficult problems and evaluate trade-offs.
- Collaboration across engineering, analytics, and art disciplines, including knowledge sharing and feedback.
- Innovation focused on measurable value for internal and external customers.
- Prior experience at a AAA game studio, or directly working on digital twin products.
- Experience leading a team of five or more application developers.
- Working understanding of analytical, statistical, and optimization tools for ingesting and processing game event data.
- Knowledge of at least one key SAS product: CI360, Intelligent Decisioning, or Event Stream Processing.
