System One is hiring a ServiceNow Discovery Developer to strengthen ServiceNow Discovery and CMDB accuracy for enterprise infrastructure. This onsite role in Knoxville, TN 37902 (USD 108,500 per year) focuses on building reliable discovery patterns, configuring ingestion, and keeping CMDB data trustworthy so downstream IT processes can depend on it.
What you will build and improve
You will develop, customize, and support ServiceNow Discovery capabilities, ensuring discovered services and infrastructure are represented correctly in the CMDB. The work includes creating Discovery patterns, configuring Service Graph Connectors and other CMDB ingestion mechanisms, and validating configuration items and their relationships. When issues occur, you will troubleshoot discovery failures, incomplete identification, pattern errors, connector problems, and connectivity or credential challenges. You will also investigate duplicates and inaccuracies that impact data quality and improve CMDB accuracy over time.
Responsibilities
- Develop and customize ServiceNow Discovery patterns to fit organizational needs.
- Configure and support Service Graph Connectors and other CMDB ingestion mechanisms.
- Discover and onboard on-premises infrastructure, servers, network technologies, and related enterprise resources into the CMDB.
- Troubleshoot Discovery and CMDB issues, including failures, incomplete identification, pattern errors, connector issues, and connectivity problems.
- Investigate duplicate, inaccurate, or incomplete configuration items and related data quality concerns.
- Validate discovered configuration items and improve CMDB data quality and accuracy.
- Support hardware and software asset data and related IT asset management processes.
- Customize ServiceNow functionality based on enterprise requirements rather than relying only on out-of-the-box capabilities.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, network, server, cloud, asset management, and operations teams to resolve Discovery issues.
- Use AI-assisted development tools appropriately to accelerate development and troubleshooting.
- Support the operational stability of the ServiceNow Discovery and CMDB environment.
What you bring
- 5+ years of ServiceNow development experience, including hands-on Discovery and CMDB work.
- Strong, hands-on ServiceNow Discovery experience with more than basic configuration.
- Experience developing and customizing Discovery patterns (not just setting up out-of-the-box Discovery).
- Strong understanding of the ServiceNow CMDB, including configuration items, relationships, and data quality.
- Experience with Service Graph Connectors or comparable CMDB data ingestion methods.
- Experience onboarding infrastructure and technology data into the CMDB using multiple ingestion approaches.
- Understanding of server, network, hardware, software, and infrastructure discovery.
- Ability to troubleshoot Discovery failures, pattern errors, identification issues, credential/connectivity problems, and connector failures.
- Experience identifying and resolving duplicate or inaccurate configuration items and other CMDB data quality issues.
- Ability to customize ServiceNow functionality based on enterprise requirements.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively across infrastructure, network, server, cloud, asset management, and operations teams.
- Familiarity with AI assisted development tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable technologies.
Preferred
- Python scripting or development experience.
- AWS or broader cloud discovery experience.
- Experience with IT asset management.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field.
