Job Description
Freddie Mac is hiring a Trading & Analytics Model Developer - Technical Lead to support the Investments and Capital Markets (I&CM) trading and analytics development team in Virginia. This is an onsite role in McLean, VA focused on hands-on engineering and technical leadership across modern full-stack platforms and production support.
You will help shape technical direction for Java and Python systems used to deliver trading analytics capabilities, while reinforcing engineering standards across delivery practices, reliability, and operational readiness. The role emphasizes collaboration with product, architecture, and cross-functional technology teams to align priorities and execute on business outcomes.
Role and responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software using a Java and Python stack, following software engineering best practices.
- Provide technical leadership by influencing technical decisions, mentoring developers, and resolving engineering blockers in partnership with engineering managers.
- Lead full-stack delivery across applications, APIs, microservices, and integration services, reinforcing discipline across design, development, testing, deployment, observability, and production readiness.
- Partner with Product Owners, engineering managers, architecture, business stakeholders, and cross-functional technology teams to manage dependencies and deliver business outcomes.
- Drive design and implementation of Java-based microservices, REST APIs, front-end applications, and integration services using modern technologies including Java, Spring Boot, AWS, Angular or React, SQL, relational databases, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Build proofs of concept, demos, and prototypes to evaluate emerging technologies and validate new ideas for faster adoption of modern patterns and platform capabilities.
- Establish and reinforce software engineering standards covering scalable design, code quality, automated testing, peer reviews, deployment discipline, application security, and operational readiness.
- Design and deliver solutions with attention to compliance, auditability, security, resiliency, accessibility, and production support considerations.
- Improve production support through incident triage, root-cause analysis, observability, recovery patterns, and continuous reliability improvement.
- Mentor developers through design reviews, code reviews, technical problem solving, implementation guidance, and knowledge sharing.
Required experience and qualifications
- 8+ years of related software engineering or technology delivery experience, including demonstrated technical leadership guiding teams through complex delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical discipline (advanced degree preferred).
- Experience leading software development across full-stack applications, APIs, microservices, platform modernization, integration services, and production enhancements.
- Hands-on or technical leadership experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Batch, Spring Data, REST APIs, microservices architecture, Angular or React, SQL, relational databases, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Hands-on Python experience including Pandas, Django, Flask, and Pytests.
- Strong background in full-stack engineering, application architecture, API design, enterprise integration patterns, application security, performance, resiliency, and scalable digital product delivery.
- Experience establishing and applying engineering standards such as scalable design, code quality, automated testing, peer reviews, deployment discipline, performance optimization, compliance, auditability, and production readiness.
- Production reliability experience including incident triage, root-cause analysis, observability, resiliency improvements, and operational readiness practices.
- Strong technical leadership skills including mentoring, coaching, peer review, influencing without direct authority, and practical guidance.
- Ability to coordinate technical dependencies with vendors, product owners, architecture teams, business stakeholders, and internal teams.
- Knowledge of automated CI/CD and DevOps methodology, and AI-assisted development using tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Docker, Artifactory, Docker, and GitHub Copilot.

Compensation and location

- Salary: USD 147,000 - 221,000 per year
