Sr. Machine Learning Engineer, Energy Core Services, Digital Experience
Job Description
Tesla’s Energy Core Services team, part of Digital Experience, is building production machine learning and agentic AI workflows to power predictive intelligence across Tesla Energy products and services. In this hands-on Sr. Machine Learning Engineer role, you will architect and deliver systems that train, deploy, and continuously improve models used for quality diagnostics, forecasting, and operational remediation.
This position is based in Fremont, CA with onsite work. The salary range for this role is USD 124,000 - 396,000 per year.
What you’ll do
- Train and deploy production ML models including computer vision, NLP, and LLM-based approaches to help understand, detect, and forecast quality issues across Tesla Energy products and services.
- Design data systems for machine learning by building data storage and ingestion pipelines tailored to ML use cases.
- Perform statistical analysis to evaluate occurrence rates, risk, and root causes of quality issues.
- Build scalable ML infrastructure that supports automated retraining, model versioning and evaluation, and low-latency real-time inference.
- Create agentic SI workflows that autonomously detect, diagnose, prioritize, and recommend remediation for operational challenges.
- Build and maintain dashboards and metrics using BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI, including in-product dashboards to support modeling and implementation.
- Partner with business leaders on strategy and quarterly planning through data-driven decisions, translating model predictions and recommended actions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Write unit and integration tests to ensure code functionality requirements are met.
- Drive cross-functional improvements with software, data engineering, product, and operations teams to define data requirements, model evaluation frameworks, and deployment architectures.
What you bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years hands-on experience building and deploying production ML models, with strong focus on time-series analysis, anomaly detection, classification, or computer vision.
- Deep expertise in ML frameworks and tools including PyTorch, TensorFlow, and scikit-learn, plus LLM application frameworks such as LangGraph.
- Programming skills in Python and SQL, and proficiency in at least one compiled language for production backend services (C#, Go, or C++).
- Experience working with large-scale datasets, event-driven data pipelines (such as RabbitMQ and Kafka), and real-time inference systems.
- Strong statistical foundation in anomaly detection, forecasting, root cause analysis, and causal inference.
- Technical communication to explain complex ML concepts and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Energy systems background in solar, energy storage, power electronics, or grid operations, with ability to encode domain knowledge into ML models.
- MLOps and optimization experience including quantization, automated retraining, model versioning, and production monitoring.
