Software Engineer - State National
Job Description
Software Engineer - State National at Markel Corporation, Bedford, TX with hybrid work, supporting loan-file processing and ETL based data conversions in an HP-UX/Informix/Cobol environment with client facing responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve issues in loan files received from clients on a daily basis.
- Support the daily submission of account loan files to Operations.
- Design and implement changes and enhancements to the Loan File Application via ETL processes.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, help set priorities, and report status; production and test environments run on HP-UX Informix Cobol and Linux.
- Maintain clear communication with clients to clarify questions, address issues, and follow up through resolution.
- Onboard new clients in test and live system environments.
- Process insurance conversion files for new accounts.
- Apply changes to third party data conversion software for new and existing clients.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in quality assurance and/or programming.
- Knowledge of Cobol; Informix ISQL/4GL or ETL tools is a plus.
- Experience with HP-UX/Unix, vi, shell scripting, Linux, and .NET.
- Strong SQL knowledge and understanding of database/file structures.
- Solid problem solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Detail oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
