Software Engineer / Research Scientist
Job Description
Parsons is looking for a Software Engineer / Research Scientist to help design and implement Python-based applications and machine learning pipelines in a Linux development environment. This role sits within the Federal Solutions team, supporting mission-focused work for US government customers through practical, real-world technology deployments.
Based in Maryland (onsite), the position focuses on building reliable software systems, maintaining codebases with version control, and delivering ML-enabled capabilities through strong engineering practices like CI/CD and integration testing.
What you’ll do
- Design and implement Python-based applications
- Develop and maintain machine learning pipelines
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team while working in a Linux development environment
- Manage codebases through version control
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines
- Support software quality using integration and testing practices
- Work with modern ML frameworks and contribute to innovative, real-world deployments
What you bring
- Python development experience with a focus on object-oriented programming
- Extensive experience with scripting and programming, including bash and Python web frameworks
- Experience with developmental environment libraries such as pip or anaconda
- Familiarity with Machine Learning architectures including PyTorch, ONNX, and TensorFlow
- Experience with Linux development and maintaining codebase documentation and git repositories
- Critical experience with version/source control (git, GitHub, Bitbucket) and with CI/CD pipelines, integration testing, and quality testing
- Team development experience is a plus

Compensation and benefits
Salary range: USD 74,800 - 130,900 per year.
