Job Description

Kval Inc. is building and evolving KvalCAM, and this role focuses on taking defined parts of the product from specification through tested, shipped code. You will work primarily in a C# WPF application using Prism and ReactiveUI, with ownership that extends into database changes, debugging, and documentation as you learn Kval’s machine control environment and edge cases.

This Software Engineer III position is onsite in Petaluma, CA and includes a salary range of USD 100,000 to 150,000 per year. The role is suited for an engineer with several years of production development experience and the ability to carry work through testing and release while collaborating on iterative planning.

What you will do

  • Own defined components of KvalCAM end to end, from specification through tested, shipped code
  • Write clean, testable C# that follows established patterns in the existing codebase
  • Build and maintain automated tests, including regression tests
  • Work in the WPF application layer built on Prism and ReactiveUI
  • Contribute to PostgreSQL database work, including schema changes, queries, and migrations
  • Debug and troubleshoot across the application and, over time, into the machine control layer
  • Document what you build
  • Learn Kval’s controls environment and machine-specific edge cases
  • Participate in iterative development and team planning
  • Use approved AI-assisted development tools (for example, IDE integrations) to support coding tasks, under engineer supervision
  • Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 4 to 7 years of professional software development experience
  • Strong production C# experience, including automated testing, with demonstrated ownership of non-trivial components
  • Experience building desktop applications in C#
  • Strong relational database and SQL skills, including schema design and migrations
  • Experience contributing to a large, long-lived codebase, extending existing patterns rather than replacing them
  • Ability to carry work through testing and release without handing off to another group
  • Clear written and verbal communication, plus the discipline to work independently without close supervision

Technologies you will work with

  • C#, WPF, Prism, ReactiveUI, Rx.NET
  • MVVM, PostgreSQL, SQL
  • Rust, CAD/CAM, F#

Benefits

  • 401(k) with a 4% match
  • Employee assistance program
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Referral program

Application note

This onsite role asks whether you are able to commute daily to the facility by your start date, noting that the company does not cover relocation or interview travel costs.
