Software Engineer

Indiana University’s UITS Software and Systems group is hiring a Software Engineer to design, build, test, configure, and support software systems in close partnership with stakeholders. This role combines engineering work with production support and documentation, with a focus on performance, accessibility, scalability, and security. The position is based in Bloomington, IN (hybrid) and may also be performed remotely or with a hybrid schedule, subject to university policy and business needs.

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, test, and configure software systems and computer programs, following established module test procedures.
• Consult with stakeholders or clients to review existing software solutions and deliver new functionality and code as needed.
• Collaborate with technical staff and stakeholders to maintain optimum functionality across performance, accessibility, scalability, and security for supported software.
• Document development work, including changes, new functionality, and issue or problem resolution.
• Generate required test data, run testing procedures, complete quality assurance checks, and fix bugs based on results. Work with functional users to diagnose issues found during testing and provide production support.
• Provide documentation, information, and training through formal and informal communications to end users, departments, and internal staff.
• Apply university software development standards and best practices, including version control, nightly build systems, and test suites, while staying current on software development standards and UX/UI and accessibility expectations.

• Preferred: some experience with software development or a related field.

Working conditions and eligibility
