Senior Software Engineer (7+ years C/C++ Programming)

VOCAL Technologies Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support Telecommunications and Embedded Systems development in Buffalo, NY. The role focuses on designing and implementing real-time DSP and embedded firmware using C/C++ within bare metal, RTOS-based, and Linux environments. Clearance eligibility and US work authorization are required.

Role Overview

This position contributes to real-time signal processing and embedded firmware engineering. Responsibilities include algorithm design for embedded processors, performance estimation across processing and memory resources, and coordination between software and hardware teams through prototyping, tuning, and testing. The role also includes researching new technologies that may be incorporated into VOCAL’s custom products.

Responsibilities

• Design fast, efficient DSP algorithms intended for implementation on embedded processors.
• Architect and implement firmware across bare metal, RTOS-based, and Linux-based designs.
• Analyze algorithm performance impact by estimating processing resources such as MIPS, ROM, and RAM.
• Coordinate software and hardware development activities, including prototyping, algorithm tuning, and performance testing.
• Conduct research on emerging technologies and assess incorporation into VOCAL’s custom products for improvement.

Key Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Clearance eligible.
• Experience designing, developing, and testing real-time systems involving signal processing algorithms.
• Significant C or C++ development experience implementing DSP modules in embedded real-time environments such as commercial DSPs and ARMs.
• Strong understanding of wired and wireless communications systems and digital signal processing for transmit and receive functions.
• Application of communication theory principles, including signal processing, decision theory, estimation theory, and modulation and demodulation.
• Systems Engineering experience including data communications architectures, telecom network design, and protocol analysis and selection.
• Experience with computer networking protocols including TCP/UDP/IP, RTP, MPLS, and NDN.
• Embedded hardware interfacing experience with SPI, TDM, Ethernet, USB, and I2C.
• Familiarity with telecom protocol standards including ITU-T, IETF, and 3GPP.
• Demonstrated creative and critical thinking, strong troubleshooting, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills.

Education

Compensation and Employment Details

• Job type: Full-time
• Pay: USD 80,000 to 120,000 per year
