Job Description

Brook Valley Management is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help lead the next phase of Panorama, a custom-built C# inventory management system, and the integrations that keep it working across distributed retail sites. In this role, you own delivery from unclear problem statements through design, testing, rollout, and production support, with a focus on reliability, data integrity, and practical improvement to the development workflow using agentic/AI-assisted coding tools like Claude Code.

Role overview

  • Design, build, and maintain features within Panorama, balancing ongoing development with the stability required by a system the business depends on.
  • Develop and maintain data integrity and system uptime across multiple site locations.
  • Design and build integrations between Panorama and Counterpoint by NCR (point-of-sale), along with other systems such as ERP, BI, and third-party vendor platforms to keep inventory, pricing, and sales data accurate and synchronized.
  • Own end-to-end resolution of production reliability issues and ambiguous integration problems, including data discrepancies between systems.
  • Use agentic coding tools (for example, Claude Code) as a standard part of implementation, code review, testing, and documentation, and help establish safe, effective conventions for the team.

What you will deliver

  • Take a rough problem statement from BI, enterprise technology, or store operations stakeholders through technical planning, implementation, testing, and rollout with minimal hand-holding.
  • Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and maintain a high bar in code reviews.
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues across Panorama and its integrations with urgency appropriate for a live retail environment.
  • Document system architecture and integration points so other engineers and future hires can understand and extend the platform.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Enterprise Technology, the BI team, and the Panorama subject-matter expert to prioritize and scope upcoming work, including new store rollouts and integration needs.
  • Evaluate new tools, libraries, and AI-assisted development practices and make pragmatic recommendations on adoption.
  • Mentor and coach junior developers, including support for documentation, workflows, and engineering practices.

Required skills

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated ownership of non-trivial production systems.
  • Strong, hands-on C# experience, including comfort working in and extending a large C# codebase.
  • Experience with distributed, intermittently-connected systems, including eventual consistency, idempotent retries, and reconciling data from sites that have been offline.
  • Real, hands-on experience using agentic/AI-assisted coding tools in a professional workflow (Claude Code experience is a strong plus).
  • Experience building or maintaining integrations between operational systems such as point-of-sale, inventory/warehouse management, and ERP, including data synchronization, APIs, and edge cases.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into a scoped technical plan and communicate clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills across multiple connected systems.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing other developers’ work.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to support store rollouts or on-site integration work.
