Job Description

Redwood Strong LLC offers a hybrid role based in Roanoke, TX (3-4 days in office), with a flexible schedule and a full benefits package. The position supports flight-test related programs where extended hours beyond a standard 40-hour week are common due to flight test operations and program/customer deadlines. Compensation starts at $140,000/year.

What you’ll do

As a Senior Mission Systems Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain software for OMS-enabled mission systems. You will integrate with external system simulators to ensure functional workflows, then help deliver features through a CI/CD environment aligned to a Government-approved backlog.

  • Build and maintain software applications for OMS-enabled systems
  • Partner with simulator teams to validate integrated functional workflows
  • Develop capabilities within CI/CD and implement backlog-driven features
  • Support requirement decomposition into actionable backlog entries (definitions, dependencies, estimates)
  • Implement functionality for external system API integrations, security requirements, and operational performance needs
  • Support functional, security, integration, and automated testing across the CI/CD pipeline
  • Develop and maintain metrics instrumentation covering development, operational, security, and functional performance
  • Provide technical inputs for PMRs, Capstone reviews, Demonstration Readiness Reviews, and Software Technical Development Package (STDP) artifacts
  • Contribute to Interface Documentation, the Software Development Plan (SDP), the Software Test Plan (STP), and architecture refinement
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including design reviews, demos, PI planning, and sprint reviews

Skills and qualifications

This role is designed for engineers who can work independently or collaborate effectively in a team environment and break down large scope into executable tasks. You will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate clearly and support documentation for Government deliverables.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of software engineering experience on defense or aerospace programs (or Master’s + 5 years)
  • Secret clearance (required); Top Secret/SCI preferred
  • Up to 25% travel (required) to customer or teammate sites
  • Proficiency with C/C++, Java, and Python
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems
  • Strong background in distributed systems, APIs, services, and cloud-native architectures
  • Experience with Agile development, user stories, backlog practices, and CI/CD delivery
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity controls, RMF-aligned development, and relevant DoD guidelines preferred
  • Ability to generate technical documentation for CDRLs, PMRs, and Government-facing artifacts
  • Knowledge of DO-178 is a plus
  • Track record of writing high-quality, well-tested code while optimizing for performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI level is required for the position
