Senior Java Software Engineer / Scrum Master

Leidos is building next-generation flight service and air traffic systems within a scaled Agile, highly regulated, safety-critical environment. In this hybrid role based in Gaithersburg, MD, you will spend about half your time delivering hands-on Java microservices work and about half serving as a Scrum Master supporting an Agile team through sprint execution.

This position combines cloud-native software delivery with Agile coaching and coordination across stakeholders, release planning, and operational support. You will help the team pursue continuous improvement while working with modern DevSecOps practices to produce secure, reliable software aligned with FAA modernization efforts.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, test, review, debug, deploy, and maintain production-quality cloud-native Java microservices, contributing to software architecture and technical design decisions.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, remove impediments, promote continuous improvement, and support predictable sprint outcomes.
• Apply modern DevSecOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted development tools, and engineering best practices to accelerate secure, high-quality delivery.
• Coordinate with the Release Train Engineer, management, and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate team status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress.
• Support deployment, operational troubleshooting, and resolution of critical issues in development, test, and production environments.
• Mentor junior engineers and build collaboration across engineering teams to support successful sprint execution and project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years of prior experience (may also possess a Doctorate).
• 5+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and reviewing Java applications.
• 2+ years of experience serving as a Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile team within a large-scale software development environment.
• Extensive experience with Web development tools and languages, including React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Extensive experience with unit testing tools such as Junit and Mockito.
• Experience with RESTful API, JSON, XML, and XSD.
• Significant experience with Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot.
• Significant experience with Linux.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git or Subversion.
• Experience with common development tools and IDEs such as Eclipse and VS Code.
• Understanding of sound software development principles and practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability determination.
• US citizenship required.

Pay Range

$107,900 to $195,050 per year
