Senior Full Stack Software Engineer - Claims Technology
Job Description
This role is a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer within Liberty Mutual's Claims Technology organization. The engineer will design, build, and support cloud-native, full-stack solutions to modernize claims technology using Java and Spring Boot, modern frontend frameworks, and AWS. The position is located in Portsmouth, NH with a hybrid work arrangement. The salary range is USD 106,000 to 197,000 per year and the role requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree along with at least five years of software engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support full stack software solutions within an Agile product team.
- Create modern web applications and backend services that support claims experiences and operational workflows.
- Develop scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven integrations using Java and Spring Boot along with cloud-native patterns.
- Build and maintain responsive frontend applications using JavaScript or TypeScript with frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
- Architect and implement AWS based solutions utilizing services like Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS or DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, Step Functions, CloudWatch, IAM, and ECS/EKS or other container runtimes.
- Create and maintain secure APIs and integrations aligned with enterprise standards.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization patterns leveraging enterprise identity solutions.
- Design, optimize, and troubleshoot data models and data flows across relational and cloud-native data stores.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for production issues to improve reliability, resilience, and performance.
- Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and related automation, testing, and quality tooling.
- Improve observability using Datadog and Splunk, including dashboards, alerting, metrics, logs, and tracing.
- Participate in discovery, estimation, technical design, story writing, and documentation.
- Contribute to engineering best practices across code quality, testing, automation, and operational readiness.
- Mentor engineers and help elevate team standards and execution.
Requirements
- Owns medium-to-large features end-to-end, including design, implementation, testing strategy, and production readiness.
- Leads troubleshooting and performance tuning for applications and databases.
- Drives API and integration work, considering Apigee patterns and identity/security considerations.
- Improves engineering practices such as CI/CD, test automation, and code quality, and mentors others.
- Ensures established standards for observability, deployment, resiliency, and developer productivity across teams.
- Partners with product, architecture, and security stakeholders; communicates trade-offs clearly.
- Mentors team members and promotes High-Performing Engineering standards.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals including clean code, testing, debugging, and design.
- Experience integrating systems via APIs and adhering to enterprise standards for security, logging, and monitoring.
- Ability to work in Agile teams using modern delivery practices such as iteration and continuous improvement.
- Effective communication and collaboration; capable of documenting and explaining technical decisions.
- Experience and openness to using AI software development tools (e.g., GitHub Actions Copilot, etc.).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Proven track record designing, developing, and supporting production applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work across frontend, backend, API, cloud, and operational concerns.
- Experience in enterprise environments with security, monitoring, and reliability standards.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience troubleshooting application and database performance issues.
- Openness to using AI-assisted software development tools.
