Job Description

Senior Data Engineer at The Hanover Insurance Group leads data integration initiatives, mentors engineers, and partners with business teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop in depth familiarity with THG's internal and external data produced and consumed.
  • Lead larger, more complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Collaborate with business partners and take on a data and tech lead role on cross functional teams delivering data and reporting solutions.
  • Oversee the design, development, implementation, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of data integrations, pipelines, and related solutions.
  • Design and implement data solutions using Azure resources such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and ADLS.
  • Apply strong experience in data integration, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
  • Show advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of data modeling, governance, and data engineering best practices and patterns.
  • Optimize data ingestion pipelines and notebooks for scale, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Familiarity with integration connectors including APIs, file-based, SFTP/FTPS, streaming data, DB connectors, SOAP, and REST.
  • Exhibit strong problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Create documentation for data processes and solutions.
  • Ensure data security and compliance with industry standards.
  • Apply agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Use Git/GitHub for CI/CD workflows.
  • Coach and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Profile and analyze large data sets.
  • Apply critical thinking and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Debug issues within data solutions as they arise.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and maintain data pipelines.
  • Design, develop, and test data mapping with transformation rules.
  • Ensure data quality and reliability across systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data integration and ETL solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Information Technology, or equivalent.
  • 5 plus years of professional experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data integration.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future (U.S. citizen or green card holder).
