Senior Analytics Data Engineer
Job Description
GEICO is hiring a Senior Analytics Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data delivery solutions that enable operational reporting. This role supports datasets, extracts, reports, and dashboards through end-to-end work spanning architecture, testing, optimization, deployment support, and post-implementation maintenance in an agile environment.
Role Responsibilities
- Apply modern data architecture principles across data warehouses, data marts, data lakes, lakehouses, and related data delivery patterns.
- Design scalable data models and data delivery solutions for complex initiatives, seeking guidance from architecture and leadership teams when needed.
- Evaluate and recommend data delivery technologies and approaches to improve maintainability, performance, and usability.
- Execute development for automated data delivery workflows that support reporting and dashboards using ETL/ELT tools such as dbt and Azure Data Factory (or related technologies).
- Use advanced SQL to write, debug, optimize, and maintain queries and data pipelines.
- Provide ongoing support for critical data pipelines operating across multiple technical environments.
- Contribute to testing and validation activities, including assistance with deployment and post-implementation support.
- Support migration of existing SAS solutions to dbt and Power BI technologies used at GEICO.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data models and architectures for client projects and initiatives.
- Perform and automate daily maintenance processes.
- Assist with data and database migrations, along with testing and validation.
- Contribute to team development standards, including documentation, modularization, testing, and code review expectations.
- Support continuous improvement of team capabilities and processes.
- Assist with project execution, including estimates, status reporting, and coordination with stakeholders.
- Conduct root cause analysis and performance tuning for data pipelines, queries, and reporting datasets.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members as needed.
Requirements
- Proficiency building data pipelines using dbt, GitHub, Airflow, or comparable technologies.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
- Strong communication skills in both verbal and written forms.
- Relevant work experience of 5+ years required.
- Property & Casualty (P&C) claims data or analytics experience, or other P&C insurance industry experience.
- Hybrid work requirement based on the specified location.

Location and Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence 3 days per week at one of the following office locations: Bethesda MD, Lakeland FL, Tampa Fl, Chicago IL, Buffalo NY, Melville NY, New York (Manhattan) NY, or Virginia Beach VA.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is USD 73,800 - 141,450. The posted range is a general guideline, and the final offer may be determined based on scope and responsibilities, work experience, education and training, work location, and market and business considerations.
