Job Description

RoboForce is building production-grade software that enables real-world robot behavior, and the team is looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to help deliver reliable performance in the field. This onsite role in Milpitas, CA focuses on developing robotics capabilities, validating them on deployed hardware, and tracking down failures that occur in complex outdoor environments.

You will work across the robotics software stack using C++ and Python, with an emphasis on performance, reliability, maintainability, and disciplined debugging. The work includes both engineering at the core system level and building supporting tools that improve testing, observability, and release quality.

What you’ll do

  • Design, implement, and maintain production software for real-world robotic systems using C++ and Python, with focus on performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Integrate and refine robotics capabilities across perception, planning, controls, teleoperation, and platform software to support robust behavior on physical robots.
  • Strengthen software quality through testing, validation, fault handling, performance tuning, and edge-case analysis for dependable operation in unstructured outdoor environments.
  • Investigate complex failures across software, sensors, networking, timing, and hardware interfaces, then drive issues to resolution using structured technical analysis.
  • Build internal tools, scripts, and workflows to improve developer velocity, testing efficiency, observability, and release quality across the robotics software stack.
  • Work directly with hardware to validate new features, evaluate system behavior, and iterate quickly between development and real-world testing.

What you bring

  • B.S. or M.S. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, drones, or complex embedded systems, including a demonstrated track record deploying physical hardware products into the field.
  • Strong command of C++ and Python, including ability to read, debug, and write production-level C++ for core robot systems, plus robust Python tooling.
  • Experience with one or more core robotics domains such as perception, motion planning, controls, localization, state estimation, system integration, or robot behavior.
  • Comfort working in Linux development environments, including command-line tools, debugging workflows, scripting, and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve problems spanning software, hardware, sensors, and distributed system interactions.
  • Ability to work 5 days/week in-office with the team.

Technologies you may work with

  • C++, Python, Linux
  • Foxglove, Grafana, RViz
  • Docker, Kubernetes
  • CI/CD

Compensation and benefits

  • $165,000 - $235,000 per year
  • Competitive stock options/equity programs
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus a 401(k) plan
  • Visa sponsorship and green card support for qualified candidates
  • Lunches and dinners, a fully stocked kitchen, and regular team-building events

Bonus qualifications

  • Background in autonomous driving, drones, mobile robotics, or other systems deployed outdoors or in unstructured environments.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, or software release workflows for robotics platforms.
  • Experience building tools for testing, simulation, telemetry, debugging, or log analysis.
  • Experience using robotics visualization and diagnostics tools such as Foxglove, Grafana, RViz, or custom internal interfaces.
  • Experience taking robotics software from prototype to production and supporting reliability at fleet scale.
