Oracle Database Administrator (Data Engineer)
Job Description
At Navy Federal Credit Union, this Oracle Database Administrator role supports the research, evaluation, design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Oracle database systems. The work spans high availability and disaster recovery, security controls, automation, monitoring, and production support, with participation on a rotating 24/7 on-call DBA schedule.
The position is based in Vienna, VA and requires onsite presence, with coverage also tied to major incident bridges and critical database alerts through IT service management processes.
Role Summary
- Design, deploy, and maintain Oracle database solutions, including high availability and disaster recovery capabilities
- Support advanced operational needs with engineering principles, documentation, and technical leadership
- Provide production support as part of an Oracle DB Team rotation
Responsibilities
- Administer Oracle RAC databases on AIX Unix (installation, setup, configuration, performance tuning, and operational support for high availability)
- Provision, migrate, optimize, and support enterprise Oracle databases on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Implement advanced security controls, including network encryption to TLS 1.2 standards for client-to-database and server communication
- Run quarterly Critical Patch Updates (CPU) across database environments using Oracle Fleet Maintenance tools and OEM automation
- Build, maintain, and test Oracle Data Guard physical standby setups to support high availability, zero data loss, and swift failovers
- Automate routine database management tasks (provisioning, backup monitoring, and health checks) using Ansible/Shell scripting
- Use OEM for proactive monitoring, diagnostics, and performance management
- Manage incidents and change tickets in ServiceNow, including root cause analysis, and respond promptly to 24/7 on-call notifications for major incident bridges or critical alerts
- Apply engineering principles to design and enhancements of new and existing systems
- Document new system components or modifications to existing components
- Ensure the security and integrity of system and product solutions in alignment with Navy Federal, industry engineering, and Information Security practices
- Support engineering tasks based on business needs, including research, procurement, deployment, and configuration of new or modified systems
- Provide technical leadership in architecture discipline and information technology solution development
- Present clear, organized, and concise information to different audiences using multiple media to enable effective business decisions
- Handle Oracle RAC installation, upgrade, and migration work for production environments
- Conduct performance tuning for production Oracle databases
- Design and implement high availability solutions using Oracle RAC and Data Guard
- Apply Oracle quarterly security patch releases to maintain security compliance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 2-5 years of Oracle Database Administrator experience, with a proven track record in Oracle RAC administration on the AIX platform
- Hands-on cloud experience creating and supporting database deployments in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or similar platforms
- Experience implementing and supporting Oracle Multi-tenant Architecture databases
- Advanced automation scripting experience
- Significant experience with Oracle EM and Oracle Fleet Maintenance
- Advanced knowledge of engineering discipline
- Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills
- Advanced ability exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions

Additional Information
- Authorization to work: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Salary: USD 78,400 - 123,200 per year (paid within range based on experience, location, and market position)
- Grade: Navy Federal reserves the right to fill at a higher or lower grade level based on business need.
