Job Description

Hadrian Automation is building a manufacturing data intelligence layer that brings perception and reasoning together for teams working from real design documentation. In this role, you will lead the machine learning lifecycle for vision-language models that interpret manufacturing drawings and design intent, aiming to replace traditional OCR-to-NLP pipelines with unified architectures.

Role Overview

You will research, develop, deploy, and evaluate multimodal models that understand end-to-end content from manufacturing documentation. The work includes partnering with core engineering to strengthen the annotation and data loop, then creating evaluation approaches that measure both system behavior and user impact.

Location & Compensation

  • Location: Torrance, CA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 160,000 - 250,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and deploy multimodal models that interpret manufacturing documentation end-to-end, moving away from multi-step OCR-to-NLP cascades toward unified architectures
  • Collaborate with the core-engineering team to build and maintain annotation tooling, implement active learning loops, and design synthetic data augmentation strategies
  • Develop evaluation frameworks that quantify system behavior and user impact beyond traditional benchmark metrics
  • Work with the machine learning team to set technical and product roadmaps for the AI platform
  • Address the long tail of errors, since accuracy improvements translate directly into man-years of time savings at Hadrian’s scale

Requirements

  • Experience: 5-8 years of professional deep learning experience, including at least 2 years focused on multimodal models using image and text modalities
  • Modeling & tooling: Strong Python and PyTorch proficiency, including building custom training loops, loss functions, and data loaders from scratch when needed
  • Production ownership: Experience shipping models to production, with responsibility for endpoint and model health
  • Education: MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience valued equally

Technologies

  • Python
  • PyTorch

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans for employees
  • 401k
  • Relocation support may be provided for certain situations, based on business need
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Equity

Bonus Points

  • Passion for manufacturing and belief in improved software for the industry
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing, including work with manufacturing data
  • Published research, state-of-the-art results on relevant benchmarks, or contributions to open-source frameworks
  • Prior experience in a high-ownership startup environment

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Use of AI in Hiring

  • Hadrian uses AI-assisted tools in recruiting and hiring to help the team work more efficiently, including tools that organize and analyze recruiting data
  • The process may include an AI-powered notetaker that records and transcribes interviews and helps coordinate feedback
  • These tools support the team and are not used to make hiring decisions
  • All candidate evaluations and hiring decisions are performed by humans
  • If an interview will be recorded, you will be notified in advance and may opt out at any time with no impact on your candidacy
  • Candidate data processed through these tools is subject to the same protections described in Hadrian’s Privacy Policy

Education Requirement: MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

Experience Requirement: 5 years minimum.
