Machine Learning Engineer Manager

Machine Learning Engineer Manager role in San Jose, CA (onsite) focusing on designing and deploying multimodal ML models for content recognition and safety within TikTok Trust and Safety.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize content recognition models for critical safety scenarios including CSAM, CBS, and misinformation to advance moderation automation.
• Tackle cross-lingual, multimodal, and low-resource challenges to boost model generalization under complex compliance constraints.
• Partner with Recommendation, Policy, and Product teams to craft joint safety strategies and enable governance from recognition to traffic control.
• Engage in the full stack lifecycle from data curation and strategy modeling to model deployment to improve system response speed and compliance granularity.

Requirements

• Experience building multimodal algorithms with exposure to large-model deployments in real-world settings; familiarity with content moderation tasks; prior modeling in safety or compliance domains is preferred.
• Strong understanding of compliance-driven requirements and the ability to translate policy needs into practical technical solutions.
• Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, capable of driving joint policy design and integrated system implementation.
• Publications in top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV) or experience in competitive AI challenges.
• Highly responsible and self-motivated, with a strong interest in content safety technology and the ability to adapt to a fast-evolving risk governance landscape.

Compensation

Base salary range for San Jose, CA is $244,800 - $450,000 per year.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the total package, which may include discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units.
