Job Description

Join a mission driven team at the American Red Cross as a Lead Data Engineer on the Enterprise Data & Analytics Group. This role focuses on modernizing data architecture, building scalable data pipelines and an enterprise data warehouse, ensuring data quality, and mentoring teammates. The position is remote with in-person meetings as needed and periodic weekend rotation, based in North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with analytics and business teams to refine data models that feed business intelligence tools, boosting data accessibility and enabling data driven decisions across the organization.
  • Design and implement scalable solutions aligned to data governance standards and the architectural roadmap for data integrations, storage, reporting, and analytics.
  • Develop, test, and validate data integration solutions; write, automate, and document unit, integration, and functional tests.
  • Oversee automated deployments via Git pipelines, ensuring changes are properly versioned and deployed efficiently.
  • Work with multiple teams to streamline deployment workflows and monitor pipelines for reliability and performance.
  • Analyze data issues to troubleshoot and build a data quality framework that supports issue resolution.
  • Act as a technical lead by mentoring junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and hands on guidance.

Requirements

  • Education: a four year college degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or related domains.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; the organization does not sponsor employment visas.
  • Experience with a range of database technologies and data warehouse schema design patterns.
  • Cloud based databases, with emphasis on AWS technologies.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including writing and optimizing queries for large, complex datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python coding.
  • Experience with AI assisted tools for code development, testing, and documentation across the software lifecycle (for example GitHub Copilot, Duo).
  • Experience creating ETL or ELT jobs.
  • DevOps practices and tools such as Git and Artifactory.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience leading data engineering teams in onshore/offshore models, mentoring through code reviews and pair programming, and establishing team best practices.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; highly process oriented with good documentation practices.
  • Passion for the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross and a energized, committed approach to the role.

Compensation and work setup

Annual salary range: USD 140,000 to 155,000. This role does not include an annual bonus. Salaries are aligned to the geographic location where the work is performed, and specific salary details will be discussed during the phone screening based on location and experience.

Work arrangement: Remote with in-person meetings as needed and periodic weekend rotation. Location: North Carolina (remote). Authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not provided.
