Java Full Stack Developer - AWS

Contract opportunity for a Java full stack engineer focused on AWS-based micro-services and front-end development with compliance and operational responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy Java-based software and web applications
• Build and maintain Java micro-services running on AWS
• Develop front-end web applications with Section 508 compliance and responsive UI behavior
• Ensure web page user interactions are intuitive and engaging
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
• Push code regularly to a version control system
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to Agile practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
• Control, plan, and direct all aspects of the change process
• Provide daily support and direction to staff on change status requirements, deadlines, and problems
• Perform technical operations including builds, software installation and upgrades, patching, security, system responsiveness, scaling, troubleshooting, reliability, and monitoring
• Track, log, categorize, and maintain changes against accepted baseline(s)
• Resolve complex problems using deep technical knowledge and experience
• Provide support to tier 2 application issues as needed
• Participate in reviewing project plans and schedules
• Report and track open issues and action items in Jira
• Provide status and statistical reporting for weekly status and monthly deep dives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
• Minimum 10 years hands-on experience with Java-based micro-services and web applications
• Proficiency with Spring Boot micro-services architecture, Spring frameworks, and Spring Security
• Proficiency with fundamental front-end languages: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Proficiency with GitHub, Git operations, and git flow
• Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and/or React
• Experience with automation tools such as Jenkins and Ansible or other CI/CD tools
• Good knowledge of AWS Cloud environment and services, including: AWS Console, AWS EC2, AWS Fargate, AWS ECS, RDS, OpenSearch, AWS S3 and storage tiers, RSH, SSH, SSL, Security Groups, and Firewall configurations
• Experience with log analysis and monitoring tools such as Splunk
• Must have experience with Terraform and Docker
• Working knowledge of Agile development methodologies like SAFe and Scrum
• Experience with Atlassian tools
• Hands-on experience with software-defined compute, storage, and network
• Ability to automate builds, repetitive tasks, and log analysis
• Public Trust clearance required (ability to obtain)
• Must have lived in the United States at least 3 out of the last 5 years
• Must be able to go through US Federal Public Trust Security Clearance
• Local candidate required to work in the Rockville office 3 times a week
• Relocate before starting work (Rockville, MD 20850) (Required)
