Data Engineer 4 (Manager, IC)

As a Data Engineer 4 (Manager, IC), you will help design and deliver scalable, secure data pipelines and platforms while influencing, mentoring, and partnering with product managers and software engineers. This onsite role is based in New York, NY.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies.
• Provide influence and mentorship to a team of developers, data analysts, and data scientists with experience in machine learning, distributed microservices, lakehouse architecture, and full-stack systems.
• Build using Python and Spark, alongside open-source relational and NoSQL databases, and cloud data warehousing platforms including Databricks and Snowflake.
• Experiment with emerging data technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and share knowledge with the data engineering community.
• Partner with product managers and software engineers to deliver robust cloud-first data solutions and communicate technical concepts and data outcomes.
• Independently design, build, and deliver cloud data solutions and applications with little or no support from supervisors or managers.
• Architect and enforce common data engineering design patterns to support code quality, maintainability, and reusability across platforms and pipelines.
• Design and build pipelines and platforms focused on scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency to maintain performance as data volume and business demands grow.
• Implement data security standards, including encryption at rest/transit and fine-grained access control, to support compliance with data privacy regulations.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering).
• 4+ years of experience in application development (internship experience does not apply).
• 2+ years of experience in distributed data.
• 2+ years of experience with SQL.
• 2+ years of experience with one programming language: Python, Java, or Scala.
• 2+ years of experience in data pipeline design and development.
• 1+ year of experience in data modeling and designing end-to-end data solutions using both relational and non-relational database systems.

Compensation and benefits

Salary: USD 215,200 - 245,600 per year (New York, NY onsite). Capital One also offers a comprehensive, competitive, and inclusive set of health, financial and other benefits to support your total well-being.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
