Job Description

Build reliable data foundations for decarbonization. ExxonMobil’s Low Carbon Solutions (LCS) IT team is hiring a Data Engineer to design and deliver scalable, cloud-based data pipelines and a physical data platform that supports multiple LCS business use cases. This onsite role in Spring, TX focuses on getting data moving with confidence, backed by governance, security, and quality.

What role you will play

As part of the LCS IT team, you’ll help build scalable data pipelines and expand the physical data platform that serves as a key foundation for multiple Low Carbon Solution business use cases. You’ll design modern data solutions aligned with LCS business and IT architectures, partnering closely across the team and with IT and business stakeholders to deliver data products that meet real needs.

What you will do

  • Lead and participate in gathering complex, often unique business requirements by defining the business problem and data requirements
  • Design, build, and maintain batch and/or real-time pipelines to ingest, process, and transform large-scale datasets
  • Develop and maintain robust physical data models and data flow diagrams for transactional solutions, analytics, reporting, and business workflows
  • Integrate APIs and modern data integrations, ensuring reliable, monitored, and efficient data movement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to profile data sources, structure and clean data, and deliver datasets for consumers such as applications, visualization tools, and end users
  • Ensure adherence to data classification and security access through appropriate storage, data management, and query optimization
  • Build enterprise-ready solutions using strong data governance, quality, and reliability standards
  • Stay current with data engineering technologies and apply improvements to existing pipelines
  • Integrate platform standards for source code management, work item and project tracking, DevOps, and enterprise architecture
  • Mentor Data Engineers – Associate, providing guidance and support in professional development and ensuring contractors follow ExxonMobil standards and architectures

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, data platform development, or related areas
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data processing and pipeline development
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining scalable batch and streaming pipelines
  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT design patterns, and data architecture best practices
  • Experience with cloud data platforms and distributed data processing frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL database technologies
  • Experience implementing data quality, validation, and monitoring frameworks
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for data workflows
