Job Description

Design, build, and improve data systems that support university reporting, analysis, and AI readiness. As a Data Engineer at Lindenwood University, you will partner with stakeholders across departments, keep a data lake running reliably, and help ensure security and governance expectations are met. The role also emphasizes service excellence and collaboration, with clear expectations around integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork.

What you’ll do

  • Work with stakeholders across departments to understand data reporting and analysis objectives
  • Design, implement, document, and maintain a data lake aligned to university data requirements
  • Prepare university data environments for artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and use
  • Recommend solutions or alternative approaches to meet requirements
  • Provide technical support to department users of the system
  • Create and maintain system documentation, including user manuals, technical guides, and standard operating procedures
  • Manage system upgrades and enhancements, including testing and documentation updates
  • Troubleshoot data access and data manipulation issues and deliver timely solutions
  • Develop and implement system security policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with university data governance and security policies
  • Develop algorithms that transform raw data into useful, actionable information
  • Create new data validation methods and data analysis tools
  • Monitor system and integration performance and identify improvement opportunities
  • Participate in project planning and implementation for system-related initiatives
  • Support the University’s mission and serve as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Model, support, and hold others accountable to University values: integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Coordinate application upgrades or fixes with staff
  • Serve as a liaison with third parties and other stakeholders
  • Participate in user group meetings and conferences
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Minimum 3 years working with Microsoft Data Products, including Azure Database and Power Platform tools

Skills and knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Strong understanding of university processes and data to ensure correct implementation
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft data management tools
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration
  • Understanding of data lake and star schema configuration and management
  • Strong understanding of database design, structure functions and processes, and experience with database tools
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication

Location: Saint Charles, MO (onsite). As part of the IT team in Enterprise Systems, your work will follow direction from the chief information officer, chief data officer, director of enterprise systems, and other university administrators.
