Job Description

The Data Engineer role within Thomson Reuters Special Services (TRSS) focuses on implementing data-enabled solutions that support both internal operations and customer-facing needs. The position involves building and improving pipelines for structured and unstructured data, with collaboration across technology teams and direct implementation and support at customer locations.

Location and Work Model

McLean, VA (hybrid)

Compensation

USD 94,000 - 175,000 per year

This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal resources and customer technology staff to implement and support custom TRSS client solutions and proofs of concept (POCs)
  • Design, build, and support data pipelines and workflows that improve the usefulness and efficiency of internal and external data for customer issues
  • Support and continually improve internal processes, including automation of robotic processes where possible
  • Provide solution architecture support for business opportunities
  • Share technical expertise with leadership teams based on knowledge of customer technology requirements and infrastructure
  • Assess and interpret unique client requirements, then deliver custom integrations that bring TRSS content into client applications
  • Support the implementation of internal and external data-enabled solutions for the TRSS organization
  • Maintain a customer-facing component, including direct implementation and support of existing or new applications at customer locations

Required Qualifications

  • Several years of data engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience leading the implementation and customization of technical solutions, preferably for government clients
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with interest in Python and SQL (other languages may be useful)
  • Experience with Restful web services and current data communications technologies
  • Experience connecting to and querying a variety of relational and document-oriented databases
  • Comfort working in GUI and command line environments on Linux and Windows
  • Basic understanding of common data structures including flat files, XML, JSON, and graph structures
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, including AWS
  • Must possess a strong personal work ethic and superior moral and ethical character
  • Ability to operate under pressure with dynamic and changing requirements
  • US National Secret security clearance required to start; TS preferred
  • High level understanding of network troubleshooting techniques and communications protocols
  • Experience with information retrieval and storage technologies such as AWS Glue and Snowflake
