Application Developer Senior

Information and Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Michigan seeks a Senior Application Developer to build and support web applications and web services (APIs) within the Infrastructure Information Systems team. The role includes solution architecture support and production support, with ownership spanning the full cycle from request through implementation and release.

Key Responsibilities

• Enhance services by identifying and quantifying customer requirements, analyzing gaps between those needs and existing technology or resources, and recommending improvements.
• Partner with stakeholders to review modification requests, determine programming needs, and implement code solutions that balance requirements with risk, maintainability, and cost-benefit considerations.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of assigned products, including the logic required across platforms, business rules with multiple dependencies, integrations, and variables.
• Use established standards, methodology, and development tools to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Perform or support analysis and deploy solutions.
• Create and revise coding standards and technical documentation for new technologies.
• Provide daily operations and tier 2 support for applications.
• Coordinate with team members and service support groups to address incidents, requests, fixes, and enhancements.
• Maintain application availability by monitoring applications and related systems for uptime, error conditions, performance, and other relevant factors.

Required Qualifications

• Experience developing web services and integrations and resolving integration issues involving multiple technologies and departments, including knowledge of web services best practices and infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships while consistently meeting expectations for exemplary customer service.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
• Minimum four years of demonstrated experience in a related role that involves confidentiality, customer service, organization, prioritization, and troubleshooting to install, configure, and support web application development.
• Development experience with Python, Java, Javascript, .net, PHP, or other web application frameworks.
• Knowledge of systems development methodologies, including waterfall and iterative approaches, plus process improvement and data analysis.
• Proficiency with one or more structured programming languages and reporting tools.
• Proficiency with one or more object-oriented programming languages and the concepts of web services development.
• Experience designing, developing, and documenting robust, in-depth APIs to support scalable application integrations.
• Experience with user interface design and knowledge of usability best practices.

Work Mode

Hybrid or mobile/remote work mode is eligible at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and may change at any time during employment.

Compensation and Location

• Location: Ann Arbor, MI (hybrid)
• Salary: USD 87,338 - 98,000 per year
