Job Description

Esri’s Geo Experience Center is looking for an Application Developer to help create prototype applications and proofs of concept. The work centers on building browser-based GIS experiences and interactive map workflows using JavaScript and modern web tooling, with an emphasis on digital cartography and spatial visualization.

This role is based onsite in St. Louis, MO and supports development across targeted web applications, reusable UI components, and collaboration with core development and SDK teams during release development sprints.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain prototype applications and proofs of concept using JavaScript, TypeScript, and ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
  • Design and implement user experiences for web applications, digital cartographic visualizations, and interactive map-based workflows
  • Support prototyping and experimentation with new web-based maps, scenes, and spatial data visualizations for browser contexts
  • Build stand-alone web applications and reusable UI components using modern frameworks such as React, Angular, Svelte, or Vue
  • Collaborate with core development and SDK teams during release development sprints, including feedback on APIs, beta capabilities, tools, workflows, documentation, and developer experience
  • Explore and apply emerging web visualization capabilities, including WebGL and browser-based real-time visualization, to support advanced 2D, 3D, and multidimensional spatial experiences
  • Continuously evolve coding and development skills by staying current with JavaScript, TypeScript, related programming languages, development practices, coding tools, and UI design techniques

Key qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience developing web applications using JavaScript; TypeScript experience preferred
  • Experience with modern web application frameworks including React, Angular, Vue, Svelte, or similar technologies
  • Experience with code management systems and CI/CD
  • Foundational understanding of digital cartography, data visualization, or geospatial application development
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or a related field
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally up to 25–50%
  • Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Recommended qualifications

  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or a related field

Compensation: USD 83,720 to 141,440 per year.
