- Implement safe releases using staging, deployment, monitoring, and rollback practices
- Maintain and improve existing systems by understanding why current code works, improving reliability, and addressing business bottlenecks
- Convert learnings into upgrade plans that include approach, tradeoffs, risks, and rollout details, presenting to leadership and leading execution after approval
- Work daily in Claude Code and Cursor, with changes reviewed and tested prior to shipping
- Architect, build, test, ship, and support real production systems from start to finish
Requirements
- 4+ years of full stack development with deep PHP at the core, including experience working in mature code written by others
- Demonstrated ability to build systems, not only features, including having designed and shipped something and supported it in production
- Sound judgment across tradeoffs involving performance, reliability, cost, security, maintainability, and end-user needs
- Ability to explain technical direction to non-technical leadership in plain terms, including associated risks and expected payoff
- Strong Laravel skills across architecture, queues and workers, console commands, migrations, configuration, and deployments
- Modern JavaScript experience, including real Node.js work and front-end development in React or Next.js, plus flexibility to use other frameworks when required
- Strong MySQL experience, including schema design and performance tuning
- Experience with APIs and data integration formats and workflows, including JSON, XML, CSV, FTP/SFTP, webhooks, and scheduled imports
- Comfort on the Linux command line, with disciplined version control, staging, backups, and rollback habits
